Antimicrobial Material Information ...

Products Manufactured in Antimicrobial PVC using Silver Ion Technology.

Adding Value through Antimicrobial Product Protection with a lifetime warranty

The world's first proven antimicrobial PVC uses silver ion technology and is impregnated into the material at the time of manufacture. This helps stop the growth of bacteria and mould and works continuously for the lifetime of the product, reducing levels of bacteria such as MRSA, E Coli, Legionella, Salmonella and mould by up to 99.99%.

Silver ion technology is a safe, natural antimicrobial that is added at the point of material manufacture ensuring it is present throughout our virgin PVC material. This ensures continued protection and is guaranteed for the lifetime of the product.

Lab Results

Silver ions are added to Angloplas product material at the manufacturing stage, resulting in an active concentration of silver ions on the surface of the product.  When bacteria come into contact with this surface, the silver binds to the bacteria and catalyzes an enzyme breakdown in the bacteria, rendering them unable to reproduce and further causing them to die.

This antimicrobial quality is effective for the life of the product and against a vast range of microbes including:

  • MRSA

  • Clostridium difficile

  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa

  • E-coli - Salmonella

  • Listeria monocytogene

  • Legionella pneumophila

  • Streptococcus faecalis

  • Bacillus subtilis

The graph on the left demonstrates our material's effectiveness against E-coli and MRSA.

What does our antimicrobial material do? Where are our products used?

How Does Silver Work?

Silver ions are added to our virgin material at the time of manufacture. These silver ions then concentrate on the surface of the product and are continually released to act against bacteria contaminating the product. They do this by passing through the bacterial cell wall and accumulating inside the cell where they damage it in a number of ways;

1) Silver ions combine with bacterial proteins.

Silver ions combine with bacterial proteins located in the cell wall and cytoplasm which interferes with their normal functioning. These proteins are vital for the healthy functioning of the cell so loss of their functioning results in the death of the bacteria.

2) Silver ions promote formation of reactive oxygen species.

Silver ions are known to promote the formation of harmful chemicals called reactive oxygen species (ROS) inside bacterial cells. ROS are harmful to living cells because they cause significant damage to cell structures. Damage caused by ROS results in the cell’s death.

3) Silver ions interfere with DNA replication.

Silver ions are also known to interfere with the way bacteria copy their genetic material or DNA. Bacteria, like most living cells, have to make copies of their DNA when they reproduce to make new cells. Silver ions stop the bacteria being able to replicate by blocking the copying of their genetic material. Importantly, a nonreplicating population of bacteria won’t increase in size because the cells that die are not replaced by new ones.
